India vs South Africa Match Analysis

South Africa is on fire, having won the first ODI against India by 43 runs, and they have a fantastic chance to win this game and take the series convincingly. India’s season has been plagued by a change in leadership and off concerns, which have weakened their team’s morale. They will have to recover and play to their strengths if they are to make a spectacular turnaround and maintain the ODI series alive in this match. South Africa is full of optimism and will seek to win the ODI series as well if they win here. This is the most important match of the series as this presents the South African side to clinch the series with another victory. Indian, on the other hand will be looking to level the series and make the final ODI at Cape Town a finale for the series.

India vs South Africa Pitch Report

The weather in Paarl is expected to be ideal for cricket. South Africa batted sensibly in the first ODI despite the slow pitch. Boland Park will provide a strong bat-ball balance, providing something for both pacers and spinners. The pitch is expected to slow down as the game progresses.

India vs South Africa Team Previews

India

The Indian limited overs team is going through a difficult period. As the BCCI and administration contemplate a comprehensive reconstruction of the squad before the next limited overs world cup, there are a lot of shifts occurring in both formats of the game. When Virat opted to stand down as T20 captain, he was also asked to step down as ODI captain. Kohli subsequently opted to step down as Test captain. He is now free of all captaincy pressure and will try to focus more on his batting form. He was replaced by Rohit Sharma as the limited overs captain, but he was ruled out of this series due to injury. The Indian squad is undergoing a makeover, and IPL successes may not necessarily translate to the big stage. It will also take some time for the new skipper to get his bearings. The pressure of being considered a favorite may be too much for India to face.

KL Rahul Dravid’s decision to open the game flopped, but Shikhar Dhawan scored a  classic Gabbar innings of 79 runs steadied the ship in the beginning. Virat Kohli scored 50 runs and supported well. They both formed a fantastic 96-run partnership, but their middle order fell, ruining the promising start. It was once again the middle order which flopped for India. Shardul Thakur demonstrated his batting skills with an undefeated 50 in the lower order, but he was unable to threaten the chase. Jasprit Bumrah and Ravi Ashwin were the pick of the bowlers taking three wickets each. Shardul Thakur and Bhuvneshwar Kumar went for runs and also Yuzi Chahal bowled well in the later innings. India is likely to field the same side in the next ODI unless there are any forced changes due to injuries. There are people like Ruturaj Gaikwad and Surya Kumar Yadav waiting in the wings for an opportunity.

South Africa

The South African side showcased an outstanding turnaround in the Test series as they came back strong to clinch the series after being 1-0 down after the first match. They followed it up with a commanding performance in the first One Day International match. The South African batting lineup is flooded with talents. The opening pair of De Cock and Malan is nothing short of destructive. Experienced international hitters including Temba Bavuma, Rassie van der Dussen, Aiden Markram, and David Miller abound on the South African team. South Africa has a strong batting lineup with plenty of power, and all of the players are upbeat about their chances. South Africa must make decisions depending on the level of stability they require on the field. They must decide whether to play one or two spinners, and deciding between Shamsi and Maharaj will be difficult..Under home conditions, the pace three of Marco Jansen, Kagiso Rabada, and Lungi Ngidi is quick and scary.

This South African team should not be underestimated, and the Indian side should be mindful of this as well. The Indian bowlers opened the spell with some economical bowling and took some early wickets to restrict South Africa to a score of 68 under 20 overs. Captain Temba Bavuma took the responsibility and played a sensible century which allowed the rebuilding of the innings and that in fact helped Rassie Van Der Dussen to play his natural game and he ended up scoring an unbeatable 129 runs. They both  put on a magnificent 204-run combination in the middle which helped their side finish their innings with an above-par total of 296 runs in 50 overs.India seemed to be in control of the chase initially, South African bowlers stayed focused on. Keshav Maharaj and Aiden Markram removed the openers, while their bowling trio of Lungi Ngidi, Andile Phehlukwayo, and Tabraiz Shamsi each took two wickets to upset India’s middle order.
