I’m Not Anxious With Rohit or Virat’s Form; They’re Both Important Players: Sourav Ganguly

Rohit Sharma the all format captain of India and the former captain Virat Kohli has not been in great form since off late and the BCCI President Sourav Ganguly has opened up regarding the same topic. Many critics were of the opinion that these two pillars are not fit for the upcoming world T20 because of their current form. But the former Indian captain has backed his boys to the core by saying that he is never bothered about the current form of the superstars of Indian cricket.

Ganguly stated that both these players are important figures when it comes to Indian international cricket and he is sure that they both will be back to form very soon. Even though the challenging period of both these players are a major concern for every cricket fan, Ganguly has backed the spine of Indian cricket with his words.

India will compete in the T20 World Cup afterwards this year in Australia, following a disappointing performance in the tournament last year, and everybody is hoping for a powerful rebound. Kohli and Rohit are superstars when it comes to Indian cricket and their dip in form for their respective franchises in IPL is a major concern for the national side. They are finding it difficult to put up a significant impact in the game with their bat and Sourav Ganguly has expressed his views on whether it would impact the International side heading into the T20 world cup this year.

“I’m not concerned about Rohit or Virat’s form. They’re too good…two important guys. The World Cup is a long way away, but I am convinced that they will be in prime shape well before the competition.” Ganguly said.

We saw a very different Kohli this year who has scored only a handful of 236 runs at a strike rate of 133.46 with an average of 19.67 in 13 games this year. This is a shadow of the original Virat Kohli that used to dominate bowlers all over the world with his crisp cover drives and consistent big scores. He has scored only one half century this season along with three golden ducks to his name. Besides the debut year of the IPL, Kohli’s stats have never been lower. His choice to resign as captain in order to ease the strain was equally unsuccessful.

Even though Rohit Sharma is not the swashbuckling opener in International cricket when it comes to IPL and playing for Mumbai Indians, he usually had decent numbers to back up his captaincy skills for the franchise. But, this year things have been different as the Indian captain also has only 218 runs from 12 games to his name with an average of 18.17 and strike rate of 125.29. He is yet to score a half century in this season and has five single digit scores to his name along with a duck. This disappointing performance also resulted in the fate of Mumbai Indians as they became the first team this season to be officially knocked out of the tournament.

India has a long schedule ahead of the T20 World Cup

India has a hectic schedule leading in the big World Cup later this year in Australia. Along with the Test and ODI series, India will be playing four T20 series this year which is against South Africa during June followed by one against Ireland. The team is scheduled to move to England after that followed by one series against the West Indies. India will also play the one off Test which was scheduled last year. The result of the series is dependent on this particular Test match as England have a chance to level the Test series if they win that match.
